● Okay, I just made up that title because I have spent days trying to think of a cool one and just cant. ●
| ACCEPTANCE |
Something that I have always struggled with, and I believe that most people do experience at one point or another.
The need to be seen and approved of by those around us. The individuals we view as cooler than us. Those who are in higher positions than us. The ones who have something that we want; whether it is a position, a status (relational, economical etc.).
Some see others on a sports team, in a band, on a television show or even people within the church and crave to be seen by them. Aceepted by them.
We even long to be accepted by people we don’t particularly like.
My question is —> why do we focus on those people? Why do we spend and waste so much energy on those people in an attempt to be accepted by them –> sometimes to the point of compromising who we truly are as individuals in order to succeed?
We have the opportunity to have a close personal relationship with the creator of all things.
The one who created the stars, the one who created the planets, the one who created oxygen, water and the exact conditions that we need to sustain life.
The supreme being that created things he knew we would enjoy, like Alaskan Klee Kai’s and penguins. The one who has hand picked and created us for another individual. that is the one we have the opportunity to know and enjoy. We are able to experience the company of the God of the universe, yet we spend a lot of time worrying about the fact that joe schmo over at target doesn’t like us.
Heres what I have to tell you.
There is a void in our hearts that can only be filled by King Jesus. The Lord —> the king above all other kings.
The one who commanded everything that was ever anything to appear wants to know you. He wants to know everything about you. He wants you to crave him. He left the comfort and perfection that is Heaven, so that He could be human for a little over 30 years, deal with the disaster we have turned His creation into, only so He could die (a very ugly, brutal, painful death). He did this so that you and me could have that one special relationship with Him.
He wants to be like our living diary! He wants to hear it all. The good, the bad, the ugly, the best, the worst. He listens and talks back and shows us things beyond anything we could ever imagine and dream up for ourselves.
So why do we waste our time one the people who don’t appreciate who we are?
Every day we wake up, we receive a new opportunity to spend that energy on the Almighty, who will, in turn pour into us, better us, and mold us into the individuals we were created to be.
// For perhaps you were created for such a time as this. \\
Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity. I have seen everything that is done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity and a striving after wind. What is crooked cannot be made straight, and what is lacking cannot be counted.
Ecclesiastes 1:2, 14-15 ESV
All is vanity is repeated over and over again – and after much research what I found is that throughout Ecclesiastes – the author is determined to make us know that everything is temporary, fleeting, insubstantial, not worth getting attached to etc. Where I have been heavily convicted through the repeating of “all is vanity” in Ecclesiastes is this: all IS vanity, unless it is done with a kingdom and eternal mindset!
Getting approval of those around me vs. Going deep with the creator of all. Which has eternal impact?
Technically they both do. One removes me FROM a kingdom mindset and one propels me INTO a kingdom mindset!
I pray that anybody battling insecurities, battling acceptance be filled with the confidence and the knowing that the one who created the stars and the moon said that you are worth more than the opinions of a hurting, broken, fallen world. You were created with purpose with intent to change lives for the Kingdom of Heaven. And right now, I come against all attacks from the enemy saying we need to be perfect so everyone will like us. I come against the lies saying we need to change who we are in order to be seen and approved of. Holy spirit I ask that you fill each person with the confidence to step out of the mindset of perfectionism and fear and into the identity of made new, and with purpose.
